A little bit about your instructor: Jessica graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Business Science in Finance and Accounting and is a Fellow of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation. Jessica is co-owner of The Movement Lab and manages the studio’s online presence.
She completed (and aced) her STOTT PILATES Mat, Reformer and Total Barre training. Her background in dance and as captain of the South African Synchronised Swimming team is evident in her creative and dynamic classes. Her passion for anatomy is conveyed through her precise and detailed cueing and hands-on corrections.
Class 1: This is an hour long class taught by Jess that takes you through an introduction to Barre: outlining the core principles and building blocks needed to progress. Props used: A Mat, chair and a set of light hand weights (Jess uses 1kg weights).
Class 2: This class builds on the foundation of your first class. It is a 60-minute beginner level class taught by Jess. It focuses specifically on coronal plane, side-lying work, to target and strengthen muscles we don’t often use in our day-to-day lives. Props used: Mat and chair
Class 3: This 50-minute class taught by Jess introduces you to cardio barre. We focus on low-impact cardio and functional standing work. It also includes a great inner thigh series on the mat. Props used: Mat, chair and a set of light hand weights (±1kg).
Class 4: Welcome to the Theraband! This 60-minute beginner class uses the Theraband to facilitate a full body workout.
Class 5: A 45-minute beginner Barre class using the ball. This class increases the pace and intensity of the last 4 classes to add an extra challenge, while stile focussing on form and alignment. Props used: Small ball, light hand weights (±1kg), a mat and a chair.
